CASE STUDY
Revo Annual Conference and Exhibition
Revo’s Annual Conference and Exhibition is the largest UK event on the retail property calendar. It was the event’s 32nd year and its third outing at ACC Liverpool, having previously been held at the venue in 2008 and 2012 when it was known as the BCSC Annual Conference and Exhibition.

PRE-EVENT PLANNING
As the conference had taken place at ACC Liverpool in the past, organisers wanted to change the format to keep it unique and ensure it remained appealing to delegates. It was previously held in BT Convention Centre, part of the ACC Liverpool campus, but this year relocated to Exhibition Centre Liverpool – an extension of the campus which opened in 2015. Revo rebranded in 2017 and felt it was an appropriate time to change the format of the conference and hold it in a fresh, new venue.
OBJECTIVES/ THE BRIEF
The conference provides the opportunity for 2,500 of the country’s most senior retail property and placemaking professionals to gather and discuss topics in the industry. Exhibition Centre Liverpool provided a blank canvas which allowed organisers to provide creative and innovative solutions and reflect the new format of the event. The conference and exhibition was able to take place under one roof with the exhibition across halls A and B and hall C transformed for the conference area.
THE EXECUTION/ SOLUTION
The theme was ‘connected people and places’ and tackled the biggest trends disrupting and redefining retail property. It included an exhibition and provided a host of networking and deal making opportunities as well as a comprehensive seminar programme. Key speakers included Emma Simpson, BBC business correspondent; Tom Bloxham of Urban Splash and British Land’s Chris Grigg. A total of 73 exhibitors included CBRE, Grosvenor and Legal and General.
Attendees included investors, developers, shopping centre operation professionals and trend spotters.
A Digital Showcase hosted some of the newest technologies and innovators shaping how retail property owners, managers and retailers better engage with consumers and are helping to digitise businesses across retail and wider sectors.
The exhibition centre was transformed for the evening entertainment which comprised of a drinks reception and dinner.
PRODUCTION
ACC Liverpool’s production team provided full services for the conference cinema which comprised stage, screen and projection. The team provided sound system and radio mics; lighting including LED room wash and draping to the perimeter. Dedicated technical support for the sessions was also included, along with a live link to an ADI screen in one of the seating areas, complete with ‘silent event’ headsets.
The team provided PA systems and microphones to various stands across the exhibition, a DJ for the drinks reception who performed on top of the ADI Iconic H stand and rigging services for stand and organiser banners.
POST EVENT ANALYSIS/ THE RESULTS
Beth Wilson, Revo’s Head of Events, said: “2017 was a significant year for us following our rebrand. It was therefore fitting for us to host our annual event in a new venue such as Exhibition Centre Liverpool.
“Having worked with the ACC Liverpool team in the past, we knew they could deliver a successful event and were interested to see how we could all work together to develop a different format in the new venue.
“We love the city centre location and, as the social element of our event is key to the overall experience for our delegates, it really appeals us to have so many attractions, restaurants and accommodation offers nearby.
“Delegate and exhibitor feedback has been really positive.”
