This was the first time the event had been held in the UK and provided an opportunity for medical experts from the United States, Japan, China, Australia and Europe to share knowledge and address the challenges of osteoarthritis in education, clinical practice and research.
More than 1,300 delegates attended the event held in the Convention Centre, part of the ACC Liverpool campus. Delegates attended seminars, listened to keynote speakers and took part in networking events.
Professor Jim Gallagher, professor in musculoskeletal biology,and Professor George Bou-Gharios, professor of matrix biology,both from the University of Liverpool, are members of the Club Liverpool ambassador programme, a network of influential ambassadors passionate about bringing world class conferences and events to Liverpool and showcasing the very best the city has to offer to associations and organisations across the globe.
The ambassadors, together with ACC Liverpool and Liverpool Convention Bureau, spent many years working on a bid to bring this event to the UK. Liverpool competed with Athens and Lisbon to win the 2018 congress, which was confirmed in 2016.
