A delegate has cycled 700km from his native Norway to attend the Global Greens and European Greens Congress at ACC Liverpool.
Green campaigner Thomas Eriksen set off on March 17 to travel to the four day event which takes place from March 30 to April 2. The conference is the largest ever gathering of Greens, attracting more than 2,000 delegates from more than 100 countries.
Thomas, a Green Party city councillor from Miljøpartiet De Grønne, said: “I wanted to travel to the conference using the lowest carbon footprint possible which I was able to do through cycling and taking ferries.
“I travelled through three countries over 11 days, staying in hostels along the way. It was a wonderful experience and the greenest way to travel as well as being a very healthy way to start conference.”
It is the first time the Green Party of England and Wales has hosted a joint congress between the Global Greens and the European Green Party. The event will incorporate the Green Party of England and Wales’ Spring Conference.
Louisa Greenbaum, The Green Party conference and events co-ordinator, added: “Thomas should be congratulated for making his way to conference using such environmentally-friendly modes of transport, it is a great achievement.”
