The UK's most successful girl band, SUGABABES, will be returning to the Summer Pops along with legendary ABBA tribute, BJORN AGAIN on Thursday 3rd July 2008.
"It's been 34 years since ABBA's Eurovision song contest win with 'Waterloo' and Sugababes performed at the first ever Junior Eurovision Song Contest, so I thought it would make a great night's entertainment for audiences of all ages, from kids to grandmothers to put them on the same bill." Said promoter Chas Cole.
To date Suganbes have sold over 2 million singles, hitting Number One five times. They've sold more than five million albums (including three triple-platinum discs in the UK) and have amassed more Top 10 singles than the Spice Girls, All Saints, Destiny’s Child or Bananarama, and more Top 10 hits with original songs than any girl group since The Supremes. They’re also the first girl group since the 1980s to release more than three hit albums – trouncing Destiny's Child, The Three Degrees, the Spice Girls and The Bangles.
So with Rod taking to the stage in his new persona as Björn Volvo-us together with fellow band members Benny Anderwear, Frida Longstokin and Agnetha Falstart and the backing band went on to achieve a cult status before setting their sights on Europe, North America and beyond........
Says Rod "What BJÖRN AGAIN will be making their Pops debut on Thursday 3rd July. Formed back in 1988, there been over 4000 shows in 60 countries in 20 years. Manager and bass Player Rod, had previously been working in metallurgical research but at the age of 29 and inspired by the legendary New Zealand band Split Enz's musicianship and onstage theatrics decided on a career change to start a band which would revisit the music and fashion of the 1970's.
Says Rod "What started out as a slightly crazy idea just took off like a sky rocket everywhere around the world. I am in my 33rd year in the music industry and still really enjoy my management work as well as playing on stage. I get a buzz when I see the audience having such a great time and am really looking forward to putting a smile on the faces of the Liverpool crowd."
