    13 May 08

    Other: Convention Centre

'The Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment' is being launched at Liverpool's newest Entertainment and Conference venue – the BT Convention Centre/Echo Arena on Tuesday 13th May at 3pm.

Organised by Liverpool Compact Education Business Partnership, the launch of this Diploma is being strongly supported by the Sector Skills Council – ConstructionSkills and Employer Champions, 2020 Liverpool and Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd, key speakers at the event.

2020 Liverpool is a strategic partner of Liverpool City Council, providing consultancy services in relation to Construction & the Built Environment and is proud to support the City and The new Diploma. 2020 Liverpool is currently assisting in the delivery of the £400m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Programme rebuilding and refurbishing secondary schools in Liverpool and urges their fellow employers to support the delivery of the new Diploma.

Balfour Beatty is involved in a number of projects across the city, including part of the Liverpool BSF programme.  They would also wish to lend their voice to encourage employers to support this new qualification that will provide a unique opportunity to showcase and raise the profile of the Industry to young people.

The aim of the session is to inform local businesses in the sector about 'The Diploma' which will be taught in schools from September 2008. The Diplomas are an alternative to traditional qualifications such as GCSEs.  Students focus on an area of work or industry and 'learn by doing', in the classroom, through employer input and practical experience in the workplace.

Employers will gain an insight into how the Diploma in Construction & the Built Environment will have an impact on their  training, development, recruitment and future workforce and how they can get involved.

This is also an opportunity to network with other local companies in the field, enjoy a buffet and tour the Echo Arena and BT Convention Centre.

For more information about THE DIPLOMA please contact Maria Hart, Marketing Manager at Liverpool Compact EBP on 0151 728 9454.
