The BT Convention Centre's Head of Sales Kerrin MacPhie has been named as one of the most powerful people in the UK's events and conference industry.

MacPhie was ranked at number 13 in the annual "Power 50" list, above chief executives and chairmen of some of the biggest event companies in the country.

The judges said: "Having the newest large venue in the country to sell in a city that was about to step up to become European Capital of Culture hasn’t done Kerrin MacPhie’s profile any harm in the last 12 months.

"But to say that these were the only reasons she was deemed one of this year’s highest achievers would be to do her a disservice. For the judges it was how MacPhie has worked to leverage the focus being put on the city in 2008 for long-term benefit."

Liverpool-born MacPhie has been Head of Sales at the BT Convention Centre since 2005 and has a reputation as one of the industry's most dynamic, hard-working and best-known figures. She is responsible for attracting some of the most prestigious events to the facility in its first year, including the National Association of Head Teachers annual conference and the British Council of Shopping Centres management conference.

MacPhie, of Crosby, said: "The BT Convention Centre has already firmly established itself as one of the leading facilities in Europe. That is a phenomenal achievement in its first year and it has been a privilege to be part of the team that has worked so hard towards it.’

The Power 50 list features in this month's Conference and Incentive Travel Magazine, one of the leading publications in the meetings industry.

Jacquie Rogers, BT Convention Centre General Manager, said: "Kerrin has gained a name for herself as one of the best salespeople in the industry. Liverpool – and the BT Convention Centre – are very lucky to have her."

MacPhie's previous roles included Revenue and Finance Manager at Crowne Plaza and Commercial Tourism Manager at The Mersey Partnership.

ACC Liverpool is a £164m development on the King's Waterfront, which officially opened on 12th January 2008. As well as the state-of-the-art BT Convention Centre, it also comprises the 10,600-seat Echo Arena.

The BT Convention Centre features a 1,350-seat auditorium, 18 breakout rooms and 7,000 square metres of exhibition space – all of which means that for the first time Liverpool is able to play host to some of the biggest and most prestigious conferences and events in the country.
