Arena Box Office gets off to a flying start

17 Jul 07

The first concert to go on sale at the new Echo Arena Liverpool box office sold almost 1,000 tickets within an hour of trading through its contact centre and web sales portal.

Staff at the box office, which opened for business this week, described it as a ‘fantastic start’ for sales at the 10,600 seat arena, which opens on the city’s King’s waterfront in January 2008.

The new box office is headed up by Linda Turner - previously box office manager of the Liverpool Empire - and consists of a team of around 25 other experienced, locally-based staff.

The first concert on sale is a one-off event called the Number 1 Project Live - which will celebrate the fact that Liverpool has had more number one hit singles than any other city in the world. Every Liverpool artist still alive who has enjoyed a number one hit has been invited to unite on stage for the event.

As well as Ms Turner, other key personnel at the new Box Office include Deputy Box Office Manager Tracey Wooler (who previously worked at The NEC, Birmingham as a Box Office Account Manager) and Rob Brydon, Deputy Box Office Manager (previously at the NEC as Centre Supervisor).

The Echo Arena Liverpool is using a state of the art, web-based ticketing system provided by Audience View.

Tim Banfield, Arena General Manager, said: ‘This really has been a fantastic start to our new box office. We’re delighted by the response we’ve had from the public, our ability to handle all the calls and internet sales.

‘Launching our own box office is a key part of our strategy to provide both visitors and promoters with excellent customer service. I am confident that our box office will be the first port of call for ticket buyers coming to the Echo Arena Liverpool.’

Linda Turner added: ‘The Number 1 Project Live will be one of the first events in Liverpool during its year as European Capital of Culture so we were expecting a high demand and it’s given us an excellent start. The team are all locally based and there is no doubt that the local knowledge they have has made a big difference to the customer service we are providing.

‘The phones have been incredibly busy – but we’re not complaining about that!’
