A record number of British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) delegates attended its Annual Congress at ACC Liverpool.
A total of 1817 orthopaedic attendees from the UK and overseas visited the waterfront venue for the four day congress in September.
As well as attracting top surgeons, the event hosts healthcare practitioners and those considering a career in orthopaedic surgery. BOA last visited ACC Liverpool in the venue’s opening year in 2008.
Mike Kimmons, chief executive of BOA, said: “This year’s annual congress was our busiest event to date and we were pleased to welcome so many delegates from all over the world.
“The venue and the destination were second to none – from the team to the welcome we received in the city. Our attendees loved the whole ACC Liverpool experience.”
The event included more than 100 exhibitors as well as education seminars, plenary and named lectures and question and answer sessions covering training, research and management responsibilities. It is set to return to ACC Liverpool in September 2017 and again in 2019.
Kerrin MacPhie, director of conference and exhibition sales at The ACC Liverpool Group, said: “We were delighted to welcome the British Orthopaedic Association back to the venue. Liverpool’s location and travel network means it is an easy city to reach and these numbers prove that. The BOA team focuses on creating a great event for the city and I am thrilled by the excellent attendee numbers and positive feedback received from delegates.
“This is a great example of how multi-year deals can work well for associations and we look forward to continued success when BOA returns in 2017 and 2019.”

For the second year running, ACC Liverpool provided full production services for one of the most high profile healthcare gatherings in the UK for the second year running.
The team devised its Bring Your Own Device system for interactive voting. A state-of-the-art Analogue Way Ascender 48 was used during the plenary sessions in the Arena D-End to enable the display of the multiple sources.
The ACC Liverpool production team provided the full production and staffing services for an off-site event at St George’s Hall, Liverpool city centre.
Our new venue, Exhibition Centre Liverpool, is now open. We offer an additional 8,100 sqm of versatile event space interlinked to ACC Liverpool's existing facilities, providing an alternative space or more room for your event to grow.
We have already hosted events such as RenewableUK exhibition and conference. Forthcoming conferences include the Uni Global Union Congress and the European Association for International Education. Exhibition Centre Liverpool, which can be used as one space or divided into three, features a glazed atrium with waterfront views as well as duplex food and beverage outlets, multiple meeting rooms, external event spaces, a riverside balcony and a business centre. It is interconnected to our existing arena and convention centre, via a pedestrian link bridge, and will be interlinked with our on-site four star hotel, the Pullman Liverpool, which opens in January.
The video from our Exhibition Centre Liverpool launch event in September illustrates how our new venue can be transformed into your perfect space.
The team look forward to working with existing and new clients in the coming months and, with the arrival of our sister venue Exhibition Centre Liverpool, there has never been a better time to use our family of venues. Flexibility has always been a priority for us and we are delighted that we can now offer you an alternative event space or more room for your event to grow.
Sandra Eyre, senior association sales manager, said: “Our expansion and restructure reflects our investment into the association sector and the many opportunities in national and international markets.
“For example the European Region of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy will come to ACC Liverpool next year. We were nominated as the host venue for the European element of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy after hosting five successful national conferences for The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.”
