BBC Worldwide Showcase welcomed a record number of delegates for its second successive year at ACC Liverpool.

More than 700 TV buyers from across the globe descended on the city to watch thousands of hours of television in specially constructed booths.

Talent to take to the red carpet on the opening night of the event included Moone Boy’s Chris O’Dowd and Father Brown’s Mark Williams.

Highlights included a themed ‘Africa’ dinner to spotlight the BBC Natural History Unit’s acclaimed series. The following night a Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the series, saw the venue’s auditorium host a full orchestra performing music from the show.

Bob Prattey, chief executive of ACC Liverpool, home to BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena, said: “BBC Worldwide was keen to build on the success of its Showcase by moving the event to Liverpool last year. This year has proved to be another first-class conference and we enjoyed welcoming a record number of BBC Worldwide’s international delegates to our venue.”

Steve Macallister, president and managing director, sales and distribution, BBC Worldwide said: “Each year we amplify our efforts to boost British exports through an ever-increasing number of programme sales, and Showcase is going from strength to strength since moving to Liverpool.

“Tasked with selling programmes on behalf of the BBC and independent producers, this year’s event welcomed over 700 delegates to Liverpool – a 10% increase on last year’s figures.”
