At ACC Liverpool we don’t believe in standing still; we constantly strive to improve our own sustainability and encourage our suppliers and service partners to do the same. The green credentials of the businesses we choose to work with are important to us and our range of service partners demonstrate a shared commitment to environmental awareness.

Criteria for the award of contracts with a value of less than £90,000 fall in line with our company values and environmental ethos, including best value, locally-based (northwest) suppliers where possible and businesses that share our brand values, including an awareness of their environmental impact and commitment to the local region. Contracts with a value of more than £90,000 are subject to European Public Procurement Procedure and ACC Liverpool issues an OJEU notification for each one.

The official ACC Liverpool tender document includes a section on green credentials, which we ask all of our potential suppliers to complete. Businesses are asked to answer a few questions which demonstrate their awareness of their environmental impact, specifically areas like the type of outputs they produce, paper waste, where their offices are and the type of commercial vehicle used for deliveries.

A scoring system based on a company’s ISO14001 accreditation is also used to assess potential new suppliers.

We also help and support our service partners and suppliers to improve their green policies as we work with them. Our service partner ISS provides cleaning and waste management services across ACC Liverpool; the company is now chlorine free and has won a Green Apple award for its practices.

Our caterer Heathcotes Outside has a string of environmental policies; it minimises waste produced through the business and is always looking for innovative new ways of recycling. It also chooses environmentally friendly materials and equipment and it’s currently making sure that all its menus at ACC Liverpool are printed on 100% recycled paper. Heathcotes has reduced the number of lorry deliveries carrying food deliveries and packaging is kept to a minimum – bearing in mind food hygiene requirements – with suppliers encouraged to use biodegradable or recyclable materials.
